Rachel Chaplan - Project Bee

Madison, Wisconsin. September 2019. Rachel Chaplan is my close friend Chef Bee Khang’s wife. Bee was the man behind both the menu’s at Sushi Muramoto in Hilldale and Tavernakaya located Downtown; both of which served up traditional and modern takes on sushi and classic Japanese dishes.

A couple of years ago, while I was visiting Madison for Yum Yum Fest, Rachel hit me up for this secret project. She wanted a Bee-themed knife that was like nothing else in his knife bag. Luckily, it’s easy to say that this honey stings with beauty!

…and yeah you’re seeing that right! I put a bee in it!

Handle materials include: polished brass, black and yellow fiberboard, yellow spalted curly maple, black and yellow maple burl, and a museum-grade honeybee encapsulated in resin and faceted end cap.

Saya is crafted in yellow dyed bird's eye maple, with a hand-waxed finish.
